Lucidities

Welcome to Lucidities

Welcome to my new blog on the revamped Chronogram website! As the resident art critic for the magazine lo these seven-plus years, I’ve always been frustrated by the number of events, people, and exhibitions in the area that I can never quite get to in the column—either the press release shows up a week after my monthly deadline, or there’s simply not enough space in the thousand or so words I’m allotted each month in the dead-tree version of the magazine. I’m hoping to use this blog to get more information out there, and even better—to get more feedback (and hot tips!) from my readers.
This year should be an interesting one as well: I’m the co-curator (along with Wayne Lempka from the Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art at SUNY New Paltz) of the 2007 Kingston Sculpture Biennial, so check in here periodically for updates on that major project as it develops. Right after the Biennial opens in July, I’m booked to lead a course for SUNY New Paltz (co-teaching with Emily Puthoff from the sculpture department) of the once-in-10-years convergence of three major exhibitions in Europe: the Münster Sculpture Project; documenta 12; and the Venice Bienale. Stay tuned in July for news and pix from each of those venues!
Of course, I’ll be posting on things that come across my regular beat as well—great new exhibitions, arts-related news (from local to international), and anything else that seems worthy of attention. I look forward to using this exciting new medium, and I hope you’ll come along for the ride with me……Happy New Year—I look forward to hearing from you in 2007! Beth E. Wilson has served as the resident art critic for Chronogram since 1999. Trained as an art historian, she also teaches art history at SUNY New Paltz.
