Help Yourself to Healing
Are These Your Health Questions?
Here's what others have been asking Puja!
Since the summer I have been very busy with Roots & Wings ceremonies and country getaways (see www.rootsnwings.com for details), and of course October was Breast Cancer Awareness Month with many events connected to my book, After Shock: From Cancer Diagnosis to Healing. I’m just back from a book tour in the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area, North Carolina. People there, as you may have guessed, have the same health concerns and questions as they do here in NY.
Here are a few of the questions, selected from quite an extensive list, that have been posed to me when I’ve been out and about at readings and presentations. I enjoy the interaction that questions and comments bring. For the next few blogs, I’ll share some of these questions and my answers!
There have been lots of questions about the medical journey – from how to select your practitioners; how to make your treatment decisions when others around you might want you to do what they think is best for you; and how to prepare and present your questions to a doctor to get the information you need; how to balance the risks versus the benefits of treatment?
Practical organizational questions include how to deal with insurance billing or lack of insurance, how to know what to trust on the Internet and what research is valid? How important is it to keep a cancer history log? What would you put in it? What about other illnesses?
Another group of questions focus on how to care for yourself to enhance your healing: What are the benefits of guided imagery? How does a novice learn to meditate? What is the role of faith?
If you have questions to ask me, please email me at info@aftershockfromcancer.com. Stay tuned to upcoming blogs for answers to these questions and more… I hope you have a chance to see me on TV on Tuesday, November 20, 7:00 PM, EST TV Event Public Access TV Kingston Channel 23, Kingston NY (Puja Thomson, interviewed by Sheldon Zimbler).
